PROFILE

Picture
Lázaro Lima, Ph.D. (Maryland). I am a scholar of U.S. Latino Studies and American Studies at the University of Richmond where I hold the E. Claiborne Robins Distinguished Chair in the Liberal Arts. My teaching and research focus on the historical, literary, and visual technologies of representation that have been coterminous with the emergence of the U.S. as an imperial power since “the American 1848.” I am particularly interested in interpretive strategies informed by Latin American Studies, American Studies, and Gender Studies scholarship that link forms of cultural engagement (filmic, performative, literary, artistic, and corporeal) to the conditions that enable their production and reception. In this site I attempt to bring together my research, writing, and studio work as complementary projects that seek to interrogate the politics of knowledge production through aesthetic critique and cultural engagement.
